A New Jersey man admitted this morning that he took bets for a gambling ring that prosecutors say was run by former hockey star Rick Tocchet.

James Ulmer pleaded guilty to promoting gambling and conspiracy. The 41 year old Swedesboro man could be sentenced to nearly a year in jail.

A former state trooper admitted his role in the ring in August.

Authorities say bettors included some current NHL players and the wife of hockey great Wayne Gretzky. NHL officials say there is no evidence that there were any bets on the sport.

Charges remain against Tocchet. He's on indefinite leave as
Gretzky's top assistant coach for the Phoenix Coyotes.
