Less Punishment Promotes More Crime
By David Butterbaugh, Jr. - Altoona, PA

California is seeking to pass legislation that disallows parents to discipline their own children. The same people who vote for these types of laws are the same people who wish to abolish the death penalty and seek to reward criminals with rehabilitational therapy as opposed to the punishment they have rightfully earned. Let's look at how these ideas have changed life in America and central Pennsylvania.
First, the liberal anti punishment agenda has greatly hurt the Government School System. When teachers became disallowed to discipline disruptive students, the Government Education System took a hit it never did recover from. Second, the crime rate has gone through the roof since criminals have come to the conclusion they can get away with every crime under the sun in the name of substance disease and suffering past abuse. Third, the Government and it's Justice System has become a power and money scam that is bankrupting our country and creating danger for our teachers, police officers and the rest of "we the people".
The greatest of the previous mentioned problems is the Government and it's Justice System. Locally, the idea of a blight court is being bantered about. We already have a drug court. Why have our courts become bogged down to the point we need all these new courts and judges? The answer is repeat offenders. Why are there so many repeat offenders? Because the punishments don't even remotely come close to fitting the crimes. Why are the guilty not judged and sentenced properly? The answer is: We have a majority in our government system who are quite happy to create a muddled mess of litigation. The anti punishment crowd wishes to put an atitude of defiance in the youngest members of our society. This will carry through to adulthood in many cases. Do you see how this all ties together and starts with a government mandated lack of discipline at a young age? (i.e. the erasure of discipline in our schools.)
The Government-company line answer to the rising crime rate is always more education, more police officers, more judges which adds up to nothing more than more of our tax dollars going into a failing system. Why do only a few people debate we need less criminals? Central Pennsylvania needs less criminals more than it needs more judges or police officers. If criminals are eliminated, then crime is eliminated. In other words, the punishment should fit the crime(a supply and demandish debate, if you will). The fact that there has to be a sentencing phase to some trials is criminal itself. We all found out over the weekend what one criminal loving and crime loving liberal on a jury can accomplish concerning Mr. Shaw. Why should murderers be given the opportunity to live? Why should drug dealers be allowed back on the streets two or three times to keep selling more drugs? The Government and it's Justice System has failed the people and has put us in a situation where our streets are no longer safe.
